We’ve struck gold: Annual John Prine tribute makes its October return

The citywide event honoring the late musician’s legacy, music, and fans features a combination of shows and community events — but hurry — some ticketed happenings are already sold out.

“You Got Gold” — the 3rd annual celebration of the life and music of John Prine — is around the corner. Four days worth of concerts and events will take over Nashville Wednesday, Oct. 9-Saturday, Oct. 12. Some ticketed events have already sold out, so let’s start mapping out the celebration.

Tribute shows

Three tribute shows held at the Ryman Auditorium, Basement East, and Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum anchor the event. While two shows are sold out, you can still grab tickets to the Ryman on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Plus, keep the music turned up with a 10 p.m. after-show at Acme Feed & Seed, where Oh Boy Records’ Collin Fidler will perform one of Prine’s albums in full.

Special events

The full schedule + interactive map features 35+ events and specials highlighting Prine’s favorite local spots. Here are a few to put on your calendar:

  • Join the Prine family and Second Harvest by volunteering your time sorting food at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9.
  • See previously unreleased footage from Prine’s May 2010 benefit concert at Chicago’s Proviso East High School on his birthday, Oct. 10, at the Belcourt Theatre’s screening of “How Lucky Can One Man Get.”
  • End the evening of Oct. 10 at Fran’s East Side, where Jack Prine will host JP-themed karaoke at 10 p.m.
  • Take a day trip to Drakesboro, KY (100 Boat Ramp Ln.) for Prine Park Day on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Plus, stop by the Muhlenberg Music Museum in Central City to see the new Prine exhibit.
  • Pay the Nashville Visitor Center a visit any day to purchase merchandise from the official John Prine pop-up store.
