Drink Up Month — mocktail style. Every Monday through July 24, we’re bringing you a special zero-proof cocktail recipe with the help of our friends at Killjoy, a booze-free beverage shop south of downtown at 2020 Lindell Ave.

Pro tip: Make sure you’re following NASHtoday + Killjoy on Instagram to keep up with our recipe Reels all month long.

Mocktail No. 1: Summer Sparkler

First up in the series is the Summer Sparkler, a fun spin on an Aperol spritz and perfect for sipping on a summer afternoon.

  • 3 ounces Surely Brut (dry, sparkling NA wine sold by the bottle and can)
  • 2 ounces Wilfred’s Orange & Rosemary
  • 1 dropper of All the Bitter orange bitters (sold in sampler packs)
  • Splash of club soda
  • Small pack of edible glitter (sold in packs of 10)
  • Optional, 1 Blue Henry dehydrated orange
NASHtoday holds an amber-colored nonalcoholic beverage garnished with a dehydrated orange slice in front of a display of plants.

Gather up these materials for a new take on a tried-and-true classic, the old fashioned.

Mocktail No. 2: New Old Fashioned

All the punch of a traditional old fashioned, but hold the hangover. The main ingredient of this week’s mocktail, the NKD LDY whiskey, is made from a Bardstown bourbon. The alcohol is removed using a vacuum distillation process to preserve its flavor and aroma.

  • 3 ounces NKD LDY whiskey
  • 1 ounce WithCo Ellis Old Fashioned (all-natural mixer made with no concentrates or artificial flavors)
  • 1 dropper of All the Bitter nonalcoholic bitters
  • Optional, 1 Blue Henry dehydrated orange

Mocktail No. 3: Short Circuit

Short on time? Meet the Short Circuit, the third drink in our mocktail series with Killjoy. This caffeinated creation is a nod to another alcohol-free, coffee-fueled beverage in town — The Fox Bar & Cocktail Club’s “Batteries Not Included.” With only three ingredients, you’ll be sipping on this zero-proof cocktail in no time.

  • 2 ounces Untitled Art Chocolate Milk Stout
  • 2 ounces cold brew (we used cold brew from The Loading Dock)
  • 1 ounce of The Pathfinder, a hemp-based non-alcoholic spirit
  • Optional, 1 Blue Henry dehydrated orange

This taste test definitely got our NASHtoday stamp of approval.

Mocktail No. 4: Watermelon Margarita

They say all good things come to an end, but lucky you, these recipes live on. Meet the watermelon marg — the last mocktail in our Drink Up Month series with Killjoy and, likely, Harry Styles’ top pick.

  • Muddled watermelon
  • 2 ounces or equal parts Ritual Tequila (expect a little kick)
  • 2 ounces Modica cucumber aloe margarita mix (these mixers are low calorie and contain superfoods)
  • Blue Henry hibiscus sugar rim
  • Optional, 1 sprig of mint

Pro tip: Now that we’ve reached the final installation of this series, print all four mocktail recipes and add them to your bar cart recipe book at home. Plus, NASHtoday readers will receive 10% off in-store purchases at Killjoy with the verbal code “NASHtoday” through the end of July for Drink Up Month.
