Located in downtown Nashville, Legislative Plaza includes the Tennessee State Capitol and War Memorial Auditorium, the latter of which served as the original home of the Nashville Symphony.

Though portions of downtown’s Legislative Plaza have been closed since summer 2023 — with the most recent phase taking effect Oct. 7 — we’re now closer to seeing major changes resembling this fresh rendering come to life.

Work begins on the $126 million project in January 2025 to renovate office space, rework War Memorial Plaza, update the Motlow Tunnel, and modernize mechanical and plumbing systems.

According to Sweden-based contractor Skanska, interior demolition of War Memorial Auditorium’s north and south wings is over 50% finished. The scope involves preserving historical features, restoring lost elements, and enhancing accessibility, from elevators to restrooms.

The company is eyeing a January 2027 completion.
