Nashville’s April Fools’ roundup

Music City brought the laughs this April Fools’ Day with silly jokes, fake rebrandings, and more.

The joke’s on you. Nashville knows how to celebrate April Fools’ Day.

We sifted through Instagram yesterday — with caution — to spot some of the silliest pranks local businesses and organizations pulled this year.

Tomato Art Fest
Potato Art Fest?! This popular East Nashville festival is rethinking its main ingredient — not. As fun as a best-dressed spud parade and potato carving contest sound, we’d miss the tomatoes too much.

Parnassus Books
We knew the shop dogs had some influence, but this might be their biggest win yet. Parnassus “rebranded” to Pawnassus, handing the keys (and the logo) over to its four-legged staff.

Elegy Coffee
We scrolled past several fake beverages yesterday, but Elegy committed to the bit by serving a hot chicken latte made with brown sugar and a variety of seasonings. We’re just the messenger.

Vanderbilt University
Great news — Mr. Commodore isn’t going anywhere thanks to the mascot’s “contract extension.”

City of Franklin
You might want to look up on your next drive through Franklin. The city joked about launching a giraffe-assisted forestry unit to help with tree trimming.

Did any of these get you? Or are there any you wish were real?
