Vanderbilt basketball starts 2024-2025 season off in a big way

The university’s men’s and women’s programs not only lit up the scoreboards with a win to start the season, but the teams accomplished an SEC feat that hasn’t been touched since 2001.

Vanderbilt Athletics has hit a hot streak. The university’s football program earned bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018 last week, now the men’s and women’s basketball teams are starting the season strong with accomplishments of their own.

Both teams hosted their first games of the season at Memorial Gymnasium on Monday, Nov. 4, resulting in wins. The men defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 102-63, while the women battled it out Nashville-style against Lipscomb, also scoring 102 points. The magic number marked the first time an SEC school’s men’s and women’s teams secured 100+ points the same day since 2001.

The women return to action at home on Friday, Nov. 8 + the men play next on Sunday, Nov. 10. If you’re looking to be courtside soon, take a time out and flip through the teams’ gameday guides first.
