Nashville made its pitch. Now, Gov. Bill Lee submitted his own letter of interest for the city to host the 2029 Super Bowl.

The new enclosed stadium, expected to be completed in February 2027, is part of Nashville’s long-term plans to host major sporting events. With the next three Super Bowls set for Santa Clara, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, Music City is vying for the next available slot.

So, how is a city chosen?

The process starts years in advance, with the NFL gauging interest from teams and cities + evaluating potential hosts based on factors such as hotel capacity, available practice space, and off-site accommodations. The league then works with its fan engagement and major events advisory committee to review candidates before the owners of the 32 teams reach a decision.

The timeline for a decision remains unclear, though the 2027 and 2028 host cities were announced in December 2023 and October 2024, respectively. In the meantime, revisit the new stadium’s construction progress.
