Cool beans: How you can celebrate 20 years of Frothy Monkey

What began as a small coffeehouse in Nashville’s emerging 12 South neighborhood has grown into a bustling all-day cafe with locations throughout the city and beyond.

Frothy Monkey is raising a latte to two decades in business.

Believe it or not, it’s been 20 years since Frothy Monkey opened in a 1,200-sqft bungalow at 2509 12th Ave. S. Since then, it’s transitioned from a coffeehouse to an all-day cafe with four Nashville locations and five more beyond county and state lines, plus a wholesale bakery.

In honor of this milestone, all are invited to the 12 South location on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 4 to 9 p.m. for the Friends of Frothy 20th Year Homecoming Bash (psst — scroll halfway down the page to see what the cafe looked like in 2004).

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Music by Friday Night Funk Band, Sugadaisy, Bee Taylor, and Sammy Ariaga with DJ Dads Be Drinkin’ spinning records in between sets
  • A full bar and food available to purchase from Nicoletto’s and Edley’s BBQ
  • Kid’s activities

In true community spirit, the rain-or-shine party will be hosted in the back parking lot. Tickets are $10 and kids under 12 get in free.
