Want to pick up new skills in the new year? For over three decades, Nashvillians have looked to the University School of Nashville’s Evening Classes Program.
This year’s course catalog covers a variety of topics, from astronomy and interior design to cooking and current events. We’ve compiled a sampling below, but be sure to bookmark the full calendar. Note: Classes are open to ages 21 and up.
Food and bev fun
- Proper Sake | Tuesday, Jan. 30 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | $150 | Explore the world of sake brewing over a five-course, family-style dinner with pairings.
- Beer and Pretzel Twisting with Von Elrod’s | Tuesday, Feb. 13 | 6-8 p.m. | $85 | Each participant will roll two pretzels and taste a variety of beers.
- A Tasty Blast from the Past | Wednesday, March 6 | 6-8 p.m. | $80 | Gather at Elliston Place Soda Shop to learn about the glory days of soda fountains and try classics like phosphates, floats, and sodas — burger and fries included.
Discover a new hobby
- Drawing Workshop | Thursday, Feb. 29 | 6-8 p.m. | $60 | Instructor Angus Galloway will discuss, demonstrate, and teach the art of two-handed drawing.
- Beginning Crochet | Monday, March 4 | 6-8:30 p.m. | $50 | Come ready to learn the basics as you crochet cotton dishcloths.
- Build Your Own Terrarium at AshBlue | Saturday, April 6 | 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. | $100 | Decorate your self-made terrarium with ferns, tropical plants, rocks, and moss.
Go behind the scenes
- Frist Art Museum | Thursday, Feb. 15 | 6-7 p.m. | $35 | Join Mark Scala, the museum’s chief curator, for a tour of the “Southern/Modern” exhibition.
- An Evening with the Nashville Symphony | Saturday, Feb. 24 | 5-8 p.m. | $40 | The program includes a tour of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, a lecture by conductor Giancarlo Guerrero, and a Nashville Symphony performance.
