The Grand Ole Opry isn’t the only Nashville institution marking a century this year. The Belcourt Theatre turns 100 in June, and it’s kicking things off with a deep dive into how the city has appeared on screen.
“Nashville: A City On Film” opens with Robert Altman’s “Nashville,” and actor Keith Carradine — who starred in the film and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song — will appear at the Belcourt on Sunday, June 1.
Keep an eye out for these local spots in the eight-film series:
- “Nashville” | Opryland, Exit/In, The Parthenon, and Nashville International Airport (then Berry Field)
- “The Thing Called Love” | Green Hills, the Drake Motel, and the then Shelby Street Bridge (the Bluebird Cafe, although featured prominently, was recreated in Los Angeles)
- “Neil Young: Heart of Gold” | Ryman Auditorium (filmed over two nights in August 2005)
- “Ernest Scared Stupid” | East Nashville’s Five Points and Shelby Park
The Belcourt plans to add to the series throughout the year, so consider this just the opening act. In fact, maybe some of these Nashville-shot titles will make the cut next time.
