Metro Nashville rolls out new trash and recycling schedule

It may not change for you, but if it does, expect a new pickup day starting in early February.

If Metro picks up your trash and recycling, your collection day may change beginning the week of Monday, Feb. 2. Weekly service will continue, but some residents — especially those with Monday collection now — will receive a new pickup day as the Department of Waste Services restructures routes.

What residents can expect
In early January, you’ll receive a postcard with your updated calendar, a QR code sticker may be placed on your carts, and an online lookup tool will go live. You can also sign up for reminders through the Nashville Waste and Recycling App.

As the department optimizes all routes for the new schedules, residents currently collected Tuesday through Friday may also see their collection day change.

How do holidays fit into this?
Under the new configuration, if a Metro holiday falls Tuesday through Friday, that day’s pickups move to Monday of the same week. If the holiday is on a Monday, the week’s schedule stays the same. The updated system reduces holiday disruptions and makes collection weeks more predictable, officials said.
