In case you haven’t heard, downtown Nashville is transforming into a race track this weekend when IndyCar comes to town for the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix on Aug. 6-8. 🏁
The 2.17-mile circuit will take 20+ drivers across the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge into downtown and back, making the race one of the few events in motorsports to cross over a major body of water (aka the Cumberland River). Over 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, which will culminate with Sunday’s 80-lap IndyCar race + a post-race concert.
What to know if you’re going
The event is taking over the area surrounding Nissan Stadium with a track, grandstands, concert stages, and fan activities.
In addition to the big race, cars will be on the track all 3 days for practice and smaller races and live music will take place on 2 stages near the Bridge Building. The New Sound of Nashville stage spotlights local acts + the main stage features concerts by Brooks & Dunn, Jon Pardi, The Oak Ridge Boys, Justin Moore, and others.
As of now, reserved seating is sold out with only 3-day general admission tickets remaining. This will get you into the festival area, fan zone, concerts, and on-track viewing from designated areas. The event is also cashless and maintains a clear bag policy.
#ProTip: Event organizers highly recommend attendees park downtown and walk across the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge.
What to know if you’re not going
Due to the nature of the event, some intermittent and total road closures will be in place beginning today (Wed., Aug. 4) and into next week, with all reopened by Wed., Aug. 11. During the event, streets connected to I-24 and Exit 49 will be closed.
And if you want to tune in at home, practices will stream on Peacock + the race will air at 4:30 p.m. CT on Sun., Aug. 8 via NBC Sports Network and IndyCar Radio.
