Whether you have plans to travel for the holidays or are looking for a quick getaway, we’re taking the itinerary building off of your to-do list.

You know and love NASHtoday, so it’s about time we introduce you to seven of our sister cities. (psst: we have 27, so there’s more local knowledge where this comes from).

Indianapolis, IN

Fun, food, and sports come full circle in the Circle City. It’s basically illegal to leave town without attending a major athletic event. Depending on the season, you can catch everything from a Pacers game to a Colts matchup and the world-famous Indy 500.

If you’ve got little ones in your crew, City Editor Shea recommends planning a day (or two) at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the largest kids’ museum in the world. Or if you’re on an adults-only vacay, carve out time for dinner and drinks at award-winning BODHI, a Thai craft cocktail bar and bistro with serious vibes and spice to spare.

Louisville, KY

Just a couple hours north of Music City, you’ll find yourself in Louisville, home to a vibrant culinary scene, two professional soccer teams, and more bourbon than you can shake a whiskey thief at.

If you’re looking to spend some time in the great outdoors, Louisville has one of the only completed Olmsted Parks systems in the country — he’s the one who designed Central Park in NYC. If you’re more interested in the tastes of LOU, take a distillery tour on Whiskey Row, eat a meal at an award-winning restaurant, or stay at the home of the Hot Brown.

For something a little off the beaten path, City Editor Declan recommends a tour of a historic church and a sandwich at Shiraz.

San Diego, CA

From the moment you land at San Diego International Airport, expect a warm welcome from sunny San Diego. After you’ve settled in at Catamaran Resort Hotel or InterContinental San Diego, the SDtoday team recommends checking out one of the city’s many beaches and grabbing a coffee at a local cafe like Better Buzz.

After a trip to the beach, City Editor Michael’s must-dos include a walk through Balboa Park, eating Mexican food in Old Town, and rooting for The Padres at Petco Park. City Editor Monica on the other hand suggests a hike at Torrey Pines or Sunset Cliffs, shopping in South Park, and a snack from Liberty Public Market

Seattle, WA

Welcome to the Emerald City. Without a doubt, you already know to hit up Pike Place Market and the Space Needle (both totally worth braving the crowds for). But don’t take a trip to the Pacific Northwest without spending some time enjoying the area’s natural wonders.

Head downtown to take a ferry over to Bainbridge Island, where bookstores and fish n’ chip shops await you. If you have some extra time, City Editor Alina recommends taking a day trip around the Olympic Peninsula for mountain views, rainforest hiking, dramatic beach cliffs, and vampires, of course.

All that excitement will certainly leave you hungry. The Puget Sound is famous for its seafood: Make sure to grab a few bites of oysters at Westward or James Beard Award-winning Walrus and the Carpenter. Pike Place Market’s The Pink Door is also a dreamy venue for a romantic dinner with its waterfront views.

Fort Worth, TX

For a true Cowtown experience, you have to go straight from your room at Hotel Drover to explore what the world-famous Fort Worth Stockyards has to offer. Locals and tourists come from all over to experience the twice-daily cattle drive, shop western wear and souvenirs, dine at the iconic Joe T. Garcia’s, and dance at the world’s largest honky-tonk Billy Bob’s Texas (two-stepping optional).

The Stockyards aren’t the only thing that Fort Worth is famous for. Try the barbecue. You can’t go wrong with Goldee’s, Heim, or Terry Black’s. After a long day, relax with a stroll through Sundance Square and the Fort Worth Water Gardens downtown — which fun fact, was featured as the backdrop in Kendrick Lamar’s “N95” music video — or catch a rodeo at Cowtown Coliseum.

Kansas City, MO

Feel like a local in this certified sports city by taking a ride on the streetcar to CPKC Stadium, home of the KC Current + the world’s first purpose-built women’s sport stadium, or dive in to America’s pastime at 18th & Vine’s Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Getting hungry? When you’re ready to dine, the saucier the better — City Editor Maddie recommends trying Kansas City’s world-famous barbecue at local gems like Arthur Bryant’s or the more upscale Jack Stack. Top off your visit with a nightcap at one of the city’s numerous jazz clubs, offering atmospheric experiences like the all-red Green Lady Lounge.

Raleigh, NC

City Editor Allie loves the small town feel + big city amenities of Raleigh. If you’re going to do anything while you’re in town, grab a bite at Poole’s, Ajja, or Crawford and Son for just a taste of Raleigh’s southern roots.

Raleigh is known as the Smithsonian of the South for its variety of free museums. Become an amateur paleontologist at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ one-of-a-kind Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit with a live paleontology lab or explore the first state art collection at the NC Museum of Art.

Tampa, FL

For the true local experience, head to one of TBAY’s waterways. Spend a Friday night or Saturday at Armature Works, where you can grab Buddy Brew lattes, Chill Bros. ice cream, or Empamamas empanadas. The best part? You can take your haul outside to enjoy with a view of the Hillsborough River. Plus, visit the St. Pete Pier for a drink at Teak overlooking the Burg’s skyline.

A visit to Tampa Bay isn’t complete without catching a game, whether it’s a Bolts faceoff at Amalie in the heart of downtown or a spring training game in the Florida sun. Make sure to add on some time to peruse the city’s award-winning museums + arts scene. City Editor Bailey’s fave is The James Museum.

For unforgettable sights, paddle board at Barton Springs and Lady Bird Lake, or take in the breathtaking views from the 360 overlook. When it comes to dining in Austin, don’t miss the mouthwatering offerings at Numero28 and the vibrant atmosphere of De Nada Cantina.

Shop along the eclectic South Congress Avenue, and be sure to tour the quirky Cathedral of Junk for a unique local experience. To unwind after a day of exploration, consider staying at The LINE Austin for a modern vibe or opt for the historic charm of The Driskill.

Chattanooga, TN

City Editor Kristen recommends dining at Niedlov’s Bakery & Cafe for fresh pastries (and pizza night on Fridays) and paying Little Coyote a visit, which serves up barbecue and features a robust offering of agave spirits. For a cultural experience, explore the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art. Consider The Dwell Hotel or the scenic Wauhatchie Woodlands for a cozy stay, both offering unique accommodations in Chattanooga.

Charleston, SC

According to City Editors Callie + Erika, Charleston offers a culinary adventure. Try waterfront dining at Fleet Landing, indulge at two restaurants recently featured on Bon Appétit’s list of best new restaurants: King BBQ and Bintü Atelier, savor local seafood at Ellis Creek Fish Camp, or dig into casual barbecue at Swig & Swine.

For a dose of history, visit the International African American Museum or explore the grounds of Charles Towne Landing State Park. While you’re in the area, take in the views from the Ravenel Bridge, catch a show at Forte Jazz Lounge, or relax at one of the charming accommodations like Wild Dunes or The Charleston Place in the heart of downtown.

Lexington, KY

If you’re looking to entertain everyone in your family, City Editor Molly recommends strolling around downtown. Browse the farmers market in Tandy Park, followed by brunch at popular downtown favorites Pearl’s, Doodle’s, or Zim’s if you’re visiting on a weekend.

Walk off your breakfast with a self-guided mural tour, a visit to the Lexington Children’s Museum, or catch a movie in the historic Kentucky Theatre. If the outdoors are more your thing, take a scenic hike in the Red River Gorge or one of the 100+ local parks. Plus, find out why Lexington is called the Horse Capital of the World by visiting the Kentucky Horse Park and Keeneland.

Richmond, VA

RICtoday City Editor Robin recommends grabbing lunch at Eazzy Burger, ZZQ, and Ardent Craft Ales, all sharing a vibrant outdoor space in Scott’s Addition. Get a sandwich at Mr. Submarine or Garnett’s for a more casual bite.

When sightseeing, stroll the T. Pott Bridge over the James River, stop by Main Street Station, and wander through the historic Hollywood Cemetery.

Don’t miss Maymont for its wildlife and history, and the VMFA, which is free and open year-round. For accommodations, consider the artsy Quirk Hotel with its rooftop bar and art gallery, or the historic Jefferson Hotel for a luxurious stay.

Greenville, SC

City Editors Danielle and Stephanie offer essential tips for Greenville visitors: while biking the Swamp Rabbit Trail, remember to say “on your left” when passing. Avoid Woodruff Road, especially during the holidays, and consider visiting when Clemson is playing. Note the distinction between Augusta Road and Augusta Street, and skip swimming in the Reedy River.

For dining, indulge at Sum Bar and the iconic Soby’s. Don’t miss Falls Park and the Liberty Bridge, and for accommodations, check out the Grand Bohemian Lodge or Hotel Hartness for a memorable stay.

Charlotte, NC

Foodies should book a trip to Charlotte, according to City Editor Jack. He notes standout dining options like Calle Sol, a Cuban and Peruvian restaurant in the SouthPark and Plaza Midwood neighborhoods + Steak 48, perfect for a special night out.

Great views of the Uptown skyline begin at Romare Bearden Park, or head to the Whitewater Center for outdoor adventures. Explore the city by walking the Rail Trail in South End, sipping a drink at Sycamore Brewing, or taking a leisurely stroll through the scenic Myers Park and Freedom Park.
