Looking to explore a new city just outside of Nashville? Murfreesboro is only 34 miles southeast of downtown and has plenty of activities for you and the whole family. Fun fact: It’s also the geographical center of the state.

Sightseeing

Is it even a trip to Murfreesboro without seeing The Square downtown? You can also take your visitors to Oaklands Mansion (901 N. Maney Ave.) for the perfect family photo. If you’ve got any history buffs in the group, head to the Stones River National Battlefield.

Food + Bev

If your guests need coffee to get going in the morning, but you’re not exactly a baristaJust Love Coffee Cafe, Brass Horn Coffee Roasters, and Joanie’s all offer a range of caffeinated and decaffeinated options..

Murfreesboro is home to several breweries. Mayday Brewery, Panther Creek Brews, and Steel Barrel Brewery are some local favorites that are staples of the community.

Need plans after sunset? Grab a drink at one of these local bars: The Goat, MJ’s Sports Bar, or The Boro Bar & Grill.

As for food — our personal favorites include Puckett’s, Taste of Thai, The Chop House, and barbecue at Slick Pig BBQ.

We love Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar, Five Senses, Primrose Table + Metro Diner, and recommend satisfying your sweet tooth at Simply Pure Sweets (the fresh macarons are essential).

And if you’re gluten-free, we’ve got you covered there too. Check out this list of 20+ local restaurants with gluten-free options.

For the whole family

Let the kids — or grandkidsrun around + explore the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring or plan your escape with the whole family at Murfreesboro Escape Rooms.

Take the whole family for a day at GO USA Fun Park with go-karts, batting cages, mini-golf, a driving range + arcade games. Load up the car and spend the afternoon jumping around the Sky Zone Trampoline Park or take the family bowling at the Murfreesboro Strike & Spare.

Outdoor activities

If your visitors are ready for some outdoor fun, we have a variety of parks to explore. Grab some catfish sandwiches from Sylvan Park Restaurant + head to Gateway Island for a picnic. Visiting Barfield Crescent Park is the perfect way to get some fresh air while taking in all of the beauty Murfreesboro has to offer.

Indoor activities

If you’re looking to beat the cold or the heat, spend a day shooting lasers at Phazer Kraze Laser Tag to stay warm.

Murfreesboro also boasts excellent historical sites. Tour a civil war battle site at the Stones River National Battlefield or learn more about the Civil War at the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area.
