Nashville’s tech scene is booming, landing the city in the top 10 fastest growing US cities for tech job postings. Nashville saw a 32% increase in tech industry job openings between April and June of this year, according to the Dice Q2 2021 Tech Jobs Report. Shoutout to Oracle + Amazon. 🖥️

To keep up with the growing industry, local colleges are working to prepare students for the tech workforce.

Belmont University recently announced the launch of the new Belmont Data Collaborative — a program that will prepare students + professionals to fill the need for data skills in nearly every workforce environment.

The BDC will offer specialized curriculum, exploratory analysis, and internships through partnerships with local companies and nonprofits.

The $60 million investment, established over the next 5 years, aims to develop a diverse community of tech leaders, meet corporate demand for data fluency, serve as a local resource for academic-based partnerships + more.

Additionally, Nashville State Community College is adjusting its curriculum to meet the needs of tech demands through Nashville State Coding Bootcamps.

The new hands-on program, led by CodeX Academy and Promineo Tech, provides students with front-end and back-end software development skills like HTML, CSS + JavaScript.

Students will have the opportunity to pick from 2 programs that best fit their goals. Those participating will have access to one-on-one mentorships, networking opportunities, career services, internships + more.

Vanderbilt has also implemented 2 new departments to keep up with the rapid growth of tech jobs — the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science — and Middle Tennessee State University has a variety of data science programs, including a new Masters of Science in Data coming soon.
