Little Free Libraries have been a staple of Nashville sidewalks for years. The book-filled boxes are easy to stumble upon — but maybe not as easy to track down again.

There are 150,000+ Little Free Libraries around the world. Based in St. Paul, MN, the nonprofit aims to inspire readers + expand book access globally. It also has a map of registered boxes.

If you’re a Nashville reader, here are neighborhood-specific recommendations.

📚 Sylvan Park

Go on a neighborhood tour and see a few libraries along the way. Check out a library built less than a year ago at 211 54th Ave. N. From there, head down Nevada Avenue and explore two more LFLs within walking distance (4704 Nevada Ave. + 4400 Elkins Ave.).

📚 McFerrin Park

There are several LFLs within a few blocks of each other near the park (the perfect spot to post-up and read on a nice day). Find books geared towards young children at the McNeilly Center for Children + at the McFerrin Park Rec Center. Bonus: Another LFL close by — 610 Stockell St. — was built to resemble the Grand Ole Opry.

📚 12 South

There are a number of libraries south of downtown. For a quick tour in between shopping local, go to 1401 Linden Ave., 1210 Cedar Ln., and 3021 Lealand Ln. That last one is called “Girl Scout Troop 184” because the local troop made it for their Girl Scout Silver Award Project.

We only got to highlight a few neighborhoods, but there are libraries all around town. Book it to our Nashville-specific map.
