Bad Idea, a new wine bar and restaurant from sommelier Alex Burch, opened yesterday in East Nashville at 1021 Russell St.

Before you step inside the former church sanctuary and take a seat at the horseshoe bar (there are tables, lounge seating, and private dining areas, too), we’re spilling the tea wine on what to expect.

Drink

The wine list features 125 selections with more on the way. Burch said he wants to create space for guests to comfortably explore new varieties and regions, so feel free to strike up a conversation with Bad Idea’s staff for recommendations.

Fun fact: A custom wine cellar keeps up to 3,000 bottles properly stored at all times.

Food

Small plates led by Chef Colby Rasavong mirror the wine program’s goal to showcase new regions, ingredients, and flavor profiles. Here are a few dishes to try:

  • Anson Mills broken rice porridge | Egg, wild mushrooms, and ginger
  • Nam khao croquettes | Served with Jeow Mak Len (Lao tomato dipping sauce)
  • Scallop-stuffed crepe | Served with Nam prik blanquette and laced tuile

Ready to make reservations? The space is open daily from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
