Recently, a reader expressed interest in finding local places to donate textiles — like old clothes, pillows, sheets, and towels — to be recycled or repurposed.

We opened the floor to our readers, and y’all showed major love to Turnip Green Creative Reuse — a non-profit organization that fosters local creativity and sustainability through reuse.

About

Turnip Green believes that everyone deserves access to art education and materials. To make this possible, the organization offers the local community a free open studio, after school programs, and an artist marketplace + Green Galleries showcasing local reuse artists’ work.

How it works

Hundreds of materials that typically can’t be recycled or donated to other charities can be donated to Turnip Green, which will be used for educational purposes or sold to the creative community at a “pay what you can” price.

Get involved

Additionally, there are several volunteer opportunities + community events coming up, like the pay-what-you-can Holiday Crafting on Sat., Dec. 18. Attendees will be able to create reused garland and ornaments from recycled materials.

While Turnip Green does not accept items like clothing, sheets, towels, or pillows, here are some reader-submitted organizations that do:
