Downtown’s historic Woolworth building at 223 Rep. John Lewis Way N. has gained new life.

Woolworth Theatre is now operating at the site, seating ~400 guests and operating a cocktail lounge before and after shows. “Shiners ,” a show blending circus, Broadway, and comedy elements, premiered at the venue last week. Tickets are on sale now for shows through Fri., March 31.

The building was originally constructed in 1890 and is most notably known for being one of Nashville’s original “five and dime” stores. It is on the historic registry as part of the Fifth Avenue Historic District for lunch counter sit-ins during the civil rights movement and was most recently home to the restaurant Woolworth on 5th.
