🥔 Gotcha, Nashville

No joke: Nashville knows how to celebrate April Fools’ Day.

We sifted through Instagram yesterday — with caution — to spot some of the silliest pranks local businesses and organizations pulled this year.

Tomato Art Fest
Potato Art Fest? This popular East Nashville festival is rethinking its main ingredient — not. As fun as a best-dressed spud parade and potato carving contest sound, we’d miss the tomatoes too much.

Parnassus Books
We knew the shop dogs had some influence, but this might be their biggest win yet. Parnassus “rebranded” to Pawnassus, handing the keys (and the logo) over to its four-legged staff.

Elegy Coffee
We scrolled past several fake beverages yesterday, but Elegy committed to the bit by serving a hot chicken-inspired latte made with brown sugar and a variety of seasonings. We’re just the messenger.

City of Franklin
You might want to look up on your next drive through Franklin. The city joked about launching a giraffe-assisted forestry unit to help with tree trimming.

Did you see a prank you liked? Send it our way.

Through 39 immigrant profiles, “Nashville’s New Americans” provides a case study of one of the fastest-growing cities in the country on the contributions immigrants are making to its culture + economy. | Photo courtesy of Tennessee State Museum
Nashvillians are invited to hear from Sheri Sellmeyer, author of “Nashville’s New Americans: Tracing the Journeys of Immigrant Neighbors,” in conversation with Cindy Abrams on Saturday, April 11, as a part of the Tennessee State Museum’s TN Writers | TN Stories series.

In her book, Sellmeyer explores how immigrants are transforming Nashville from a mid‑sized city known for its country music industry to an increasingly diverse, multicultural destination. Immigrants are building skyscrapers, running successful restaurants, researching diseases, performing music, holding public office + more.

Development

Albion Music Row construction is months ahead of schedule and now expects move-ins this spring at the 29-story, 458-unit tower on the former Beaman site. Future residents can expect a rooftop pool, podcast studio, fitness center, and outdoor plaza. Albion’s second Music Row tower could break ground next year.

Drink

Bar Cala Cala is set to open this summer on McFerrin Avenue in East Nashville. The new concept from Xiao Bao’s Josh Walker + Present Tense’s Ryan Costanza will serve natural wine curated by Matthew Bone and frozen Negroni drinks. (Nashville Business Journal)

Coming Soon

Work is underway on Third Coast Comedy Club’s future Dickerson Pike home slated to open this fall. The new location will include a larger main stage, a second stage, and more classroom space. Follow along with buildout updates + catch a show at its current home in the meantime.

Tennessean

A Tennessee state flag flown on the International Space Station is now on display in the Tennessee State Museum’s “Tennessee Voices, American Stories” exhibit. Mt. Juliet native Barry “Butch” Wilmore carried the flag during his historic nine-month mission and presented it to the state following his return.

Theater

Nashville Repertory Theatre’s 2026-2027 season lineup is here. The slate includes “John Proctor Is the Villain,” “Frozen,” “Primary Trust,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” and the Ingram New Works Festival. Season tickets are on sale now, with single tickets available later.

Plan Ahead

A fully gluten-free block party is coming to 12 South on Saturday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to food and drinks, there will be local vendors and family-friendly activities, with proceeds benefiting Vanderbilt Health’s celiac disease programs and research.

Health

Don’t let sneezin’ season ruin your spring. Kick allergies to the curb and get fast relief at Ascension Saint Thomas Urgent Care — walk-ins are welcome seven days a week at 17 locations across Middle TN. Find a center near you and start feeling better.*

Post of the Day

NASHtoday_POD_EarthMonthCoffeeCrawl_2026.png
The Earth Month Coffee Crawl is back for April, with Compost Nashville and Urban Green Lab teaming up to spotlight sustainability at local cafes. Stop by participating spots, try a limited-time special, and collect stamps for a chance to win prizes from businesses such as Patagonia, The Good Fill, and Compost Nashville.

Fun fact: At Flora + Fauna Cafe, the syrup for the Hummingbird Latte is made with banana peels to cut down on food waste.

The Buy

Sprucing up the house? Shop fresh rugs and runners that will brighten your home for spring:

🏡 These gorgeous area rugs aren’t just pretty to look at — they’re non-slip, thin enough to fit under doors, and low-pile so dust and dander won’t get trapped.
🚪 Treat the front porch to a 4.7-star rated striped or buffalo check doormat that’s easy to wipe down, vacuum, or throw in the wash.
🌼 Fill the whole room with a vintage floral rug that’s machine washable and complete with non-slip backing.
👟 Add a new look and extra safety to stairs with rubber backed stair treads — just place and go with no adhesive needed.
🛁 Your bath mat has seen a lot of feet — shop a fresh one that’s ultra-absorbent and non-slip for under $20.

The Wrap

You may recall a couple weeks ago I asked if anyone had the scoop on soft serve margaritas, one of the latest TikTok trends. It turns out @nashvillewithcaitlin tracked one down at El Toro Mexican Restaurant down in Murfreesboro — if you’re willing to make the trek down I-24.
