Move over, pickleball — or at least make a little room for another racket sport in town. We’re talking about padel, which is rapidly growing in popularity across the US.

First, what is padel? Think of it as a cross between tennis and squash, played on a smaller court enclosed with walls that are also part of the game. It’s typically played in pairs, and this how-to guide outlines the key rules.

Nashville padel clubs

Sensa Padel
Sensa boasts six outdoor courts in Germantown, tucked into Neuhoff’s mix of restaurants and retail. New players are welcome to book intro clinics or lessons — no equipment or partner needed. The club also hosts open play sessions and group events + you can even throw a padel party with up to 125 people.

Padel Haus
This New York-based padel club expanded to Music City earlier this year. While memberships are available, anyone can take a swing at the sport through court reservations and one-on-one sessions with coaches. Players can also refuel at the Juice Haus bar and make use of locker rooms lounge spaces.

Answered

If you could bring back only one Opryland USA ride and drop it at Nateland, which one would you choose?

Grizzly River Rampage made a big splash — more than half of respondents chose the beloved water ride as the one they’d bring back to Nateland, followed by Screamin’ Delta Demon and the Wabash Cannonball. A handful of voters shouted out Chaos and Flume Zume.

Fun fact: In 1995, Grizzly River Rampage served as the qualifying course ahead of the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Bonus: Which Opryland ride are you?

The Wrap

Speaking of the Tennessee Fox Trot Carousel, David Lusk Gallery is exhibiting artist Red Grooms’ original sketches and foam carvings used for the carousel figures, plus a wall with new drawings he created for the show. It’s on view through Saturday, Dec. 20.
