News Notes

Today Is

Labor Day. Rest and recharge for the week ahead by visiting a local park or eating outside on a patio. It is a federal holiday, meaning civic offices, banks, and public libraries will be closed.

Mansion Monday

This 6,500-sqft Forest Hills home is inspired by Tuscan architecture with a touch of coastal comfort. Arched entries, beamed ceilings, and a sun-soaked great room set the tone, while a breezeway connects to a woodworking shop and a heated three-car garage.

Eat

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, aka the most popular ice cream brand in Tennessee. While we’d never pass up a pint of Brambleberry Crisp, Music City’s local ice cream shops serve our favorite scoops.
Have you heard of chair yoga? The mind-body practice, which swaps a mat for a chair, has risen in popularity thanks to its easily accessible and inclusive nature. Try a few poses at home, or roll out your mat at one of Nashville’s yoga studios.

Plan Ahead

Catch country music star Lainey Wilson in person at an upcoming panel discussion Saturday, Sept. 6. From fashion choices to her shifting artistic vision, guests will hear firsthand how Wilson’s signature style has evolved — and what’s next.*

Active

Who watched the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games? The event took place in China recently, with robotic athletes competing in track and field, martial arts, and soccer. Think you can outdo the bots? These 25+ Nashville gyms await.

Coming Soon

The 77th Emmy Awards hosted by Nashville’s own Nate Bargatze is right around the corner. “The Bear” and “The White Lotus” are among the nominees, as is Owen Cooper — the youngest-ever Emmy nominee. The 15-year-old was nominated for best supporting actor in a limited series for his performance in “Adolescence.”

Jobs

“The process is super easy and far more cost-effective than using a recruiter.” That’s what one business owner said about hiring through our Job Board. See for yourself — post your open positions for free.

Tech

Upgrade to AT&T Fiber for fast, reliable internet sans data caps and surprise fees. Plus, for a limited time, get up to $200 in Visa Rewards Cards for making the switch.*

Let’s face it, these summer sunsets won’t last forever. With the final 7 p.m. sunset of the year coming up on Wednesday, Sept. 10, plan to soak up the daylight with your date at one of the spots below.

If you love the great outdoors

  • Hit the water with Sail & Co. The boat can hold up to six people, so you can even make it a double or triple date.
  • Get a cheese spread from Greys Fine Cheeses and head to Centennial Park — or have The Social Picnic curate the experience for you.
Next stop: a night on the town

The Wrap

I didn’t make it to the Wilson County-Tennessee State Fair this year, so I’m glad I have another chance to grab a candy apple and see the pretty lights at The Nashville Fair. It kicks off Friday, Sept. 5 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 14.
