Outdoor movies are fun — just maybe not in the August heat. That’s why “Summer at Schermerhorn” caught my eye. The new series features four music-inspired films on the big screen inside the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, only this time without the symphony orchestra. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.

Movie lineup:
  • “Wicked” (sing-along version) | Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.
  • “The Blues Brothers” | Sunday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
  • “School of Rock” | Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
  • “Ray” | Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

VCs back startups for outsized returns. Regular people wait. But rule changes fixed that.

Take Revolut. In 2016, 433 people averaged a $2,370 stake. Today? That’s worth $1 million+, up 89,900%. No wonder 10,000+ people and the same VCs behind Uber and Venmo are taking the chance on Pacaso.

Founded by a former Zillow exec, they’ve earned $110 million+ in gross profit to date. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO. Invest for $2.90/share.‡‡

News Notes

Legacy

A public celebration of life for Grand Ole Opry star Jeannie Seely will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Opry House. The 10 a.m. ceremony, titled “Jeannie Seely’s 5,398th Opry Show,” will also be broadcast on 650 AM WSM and livestreamed. Seely held the record for the most Opry appearances. (People)

Coming Soon

Florida-based restaurant chain Naked Farmer is expanding to Paseo South Gulch next year. The menu changes with the seasons, so if it were open today you could choose from dishes such as BBQ chicken salad with charred corn + golden beet and burrata salad. (Nashville Business Journal)

Mansion Monday

Game on. This 6-bedroom, 9-bath Oak Hill estate serves up a private pickleball court, resort-style pool, and screened-in porch with a grill and fireplace. Plus, the home’s open layout, soaring ceilings, and chef’s kitchen make it just as suited for indoor entertaining.

Eat

Are Gen Z cereal killers? Sales of the boxed breakfast have fallen by 13% in the US compared to 2021 — a decline attributed to changing preferences in young Americans. But who can blame them when they have local brunch options like this? (New York Post)

On This Day

Today, Aug. 11 marks 159 years since the first public roller skating rink opened to the US public back in 1866. Thankfully, Nashville has a lot more options to keep the kiddos entertained these days. (WUN)

Watch

The MTV Video Music Awards 2025 announced its nominees, and Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar are the artists with the most noms. The ceremony will air on networks like MTV + CBS on Sunday, Sept. 7 — but these award-worthy songs with local ties can be streamed right now.

Wellness

The kids are back in school — now it’s your turn to relax. Treat yourself to a soothing massage, a glow-boosting facial, or a seasonal package at Woodhouse Spa to reset and recharge. You’ve earned it. Book your escape.*

The Wrap

If I could have one superpower, it’d be time traveling to past concerts — perhaps starting with Jeff Buckley’s Nashville show at Exit/In in 1995.

If you missed it in the events section, “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley” screens at the Belcourt this week. The documentary was edited by Vanderbilt alum Stacy Goldate, who also directed “Lucy Barks!,” a film about Nashville’s long-closed Lucy’s Record Shop. She shared more about Music City in a recent interview with the Nashville Scene.
