Recently, we highlighted ice cream shops across Nashville, everything from soft serve to frozen yogurt. You all loved our frozen finds so much that you requested a follow-up story with more categories.

So, here’s the scoop on dairy-free ice cream, rolled ice cream, and frozen custard.

Vegan ice cream

KOKOS Ice Cream, 3 City Ave., Ste. 700 | The scoop shop’s dairy-free ice cream comes in a variety of seasonal and rotating flavors — like peach, pina colada, and cookies and cream. Plus, try out a Pint Club subscription (four pints per month for three months) for $120.

Tabla Rasa Cafe, 2039 Greenwood Ave. | This East Nashville coffee and ice cream spot isn’t exclusively vegan, but look out for its rotating dairy-free soft serve option available in a cone or cup.

The BE-Hive, 2414 Gallatin Ave. | Shake up your ice cream routine with a chocolate or vanilla vegan milkshake (both gluten free) with the option to add Oreos, caramel, or strawberries.

Beyond rolled ice cream, the shop offers ice cream pops and a pup sundae for Fido. Try this: Learn how to roll ice cream like a pro by signing up for an interactive class.

Frozen custard

Andy’s Frozen Custard, Locations vary | Andy’s has been around nationally since 1986, now boasting locations just outside of Davidson County in Gallatin, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, and Spring Hill. Since then, the business has curated a lineup of loaded concretes, Jackhammers (center filled with hot fudge or other topping), sundaes, splits, floats, and malts.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, 590 Sam Ridley Pkwy. W., Smyrna | Freddy’s vanilla and chocolate custard is freshly-churned throughout the day and made into concretes and sundaes, as well as Oreo custard sandwiches. If you want to enjoy the custard at home, look for the to-go freezer near the entrance.

If you see people walking around downtown Franklin in heavy coats or businesses decked out in wreaths, there’s a festive reason.

The cast and production crew of “A Little Women’s Christmas” are in town filming a modern retelling of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel for Great American Family’s 2024 holiday movie lineup. The film “follows the lives and loves of the March sisters in a small Tennessee town at Christmas” and stars Jillian Murray, Laura Osnes, Jen Lilley, and Julia Reilly. Gladys Knight will also appear in the film.

The production continues along Main Street and inside some local stores through Tuesday, July 23, according to the City of Franklin. While there are no street closures in place, pedestrians will be intermittently stopped during filming.

However, director Brandon Clark welcomes you to watch the action: “It’s all about our audience. We’re making it for them, so if they can be part of a journey, we’re taking it on, all the way through.”
