Nominate your favorite big tree in Nashville’s annual contest
The contest recognizes the largest and most notable tree specimens in Davidson County. | Photo by NASHtoday
You still have time to participate in Nashville Tree Foundation’s 2023 Big Old Tree Contest.
Trees are judged by species, with a winner from each species category. It’s possible your favorite tree is already a winner — the contest dates back to 1988 with hundreds of winning trees across Nashville, including this bur oak in Belle Meade from the contest’s inaugural year.
How to enter
Any tree in Davidson County can be nominated, whether it be on public or private property — the owner’s permission is suggested but not required. Make note of the address at which the tree is located and snap a photo for the entry form.
Next, use these tips for measuring the circumference, height, and crown spread of the tree. No need to pine for perfection — Nashville Tree Foundation’s tree experts will remeasure trees for accuracy.
Submit a tree online or via mail and email using this form by Thursday, Aug. 31.
