Monday, April 1 marks the beginning of Tennessee’s third annual Food Waste Prevention Week — let’s not waste any time sharing how you can get involved.
Celebrate with a coffee crawl
Zero Waste Nashville and Urban Green Lab are showcasing sustainable coffee shops as part of Nashville’s inaugural Earth Month Coffee Crawl (April 1 to April 22). Feel better about your morning coffee run by picking up Bongo Java East’s Mudpie (vanilla-lavender almond milk latte) or The Library Cafe’s Solar Power (latte with chamomile, lavender, rosebud, lemon, and orange peel syrup). View all eight participating shops .
Get in on the action
Visit Tennessee State University on Monday, April 1 (6:30-9 p.m.) for “No Food Left Behind ,” a food waste panel discussion, which will also be livestreamed , followed by a chef demonstration. Join Yazoo Brewing Company on Saturday, April 6 (1-4 p.m.) for educational demonstrations (think: canning and worm bin composting) and a special Yazoo brew using recovered food.
Can’t make it in person? Browse ~20 webinar topics . Bonus: All events for the week, both virtual and in-person, are free and open to the public.
Don’t let food go to waste
A statewide food drive in partnership with the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture runs through Sunday, April 14. Non-perishable food items can be donated at regional UT Extension offices in Gallatin, Lebanon, Murfreesboro, and Ashland City.
