The winter blues are behind us, and we’re looking to spark some creativity this spring. Enter: Paddywax Candle Bar. Editor Skylar tried it for the first time last month (when our whole 6AM City team was in town), and it was lit. Consider today’s conversation the Yelp review that pushes you to book your seat.

The basics

  • Two Nashville locations: Berry Hill, 2934 Sidco Dr. + The Gulch, 408 11th Ave. S. (Skylar visited The Gulch storefront)
  • Custom candle pourings last 25-45 minutes
  • $40 reservation fee includes materials + guided instruction
  • Pick up finished candles in three hours, or ship for $12

The fun

  • BYOB (seltzer, beer, or wine) with an $8 uncorking fee
  • 10% off reservations of 10+ people
  • 20% off in-store purchases after pouring reservations

The process

You will find a step-by-step guide sitting on each table that will walk you through the process in its entirety, but first, choose your vessel. An entire wall is stacked with candle holders ranging in style from boho to traditional to minimalist designs.

The vessel you choose will have its own instructions outlining how much wax + scent should be poured and how many wicks it will have. Pro tip: The wider the candle you choose, the more wicks you will likely place.

Next, you’ll choose your scent. There are 25+ fragrances, including pairings like violet and vanilla + Earl Grey and lavender. All scents are specially blended by Paddywax to showcase a sweet, spicy, woody, and fresh selection.

Then, you’ll place your wick and the science begins. The Paddywax Chandlers will bring you the wax that you will measure on a scale in a beaker according to the vessel size you chose. You will repeat those steps for the fragrance, before combining the mixture and pouring it into the vessel.

Skylar’s picks

  • Vessel: Light pink “Checkmate Vessel”
  • Scent: Rosewood + vanilla — a masculine, woodsy aroma
  • Design: I love how my curated candle looks sitting atop coffee table books on my display shelf

Pro tip: Make sure you’re following NASHtoday on Instagram to see this process in action. We will be posting a reel!
