The party’s getting started at Ernest Tubb Record Shop. The longtime Lower Broadway landmark quietly soft opened earlier this month under new ownership, and the big grand opening is set for Thursday, Nov. 13.

The revived space pays tribute to the country music institution while adding new areas to explore:
  • First floor: a bar with two stages and memorabilia
  • Second floor: record shop
  • Third floor: private event space tailored for album release parties and showcases
  • Rooftop: open-air patio with food and drinks available
  • Basement: The Forty Seven, a lounge named for the year the shop opened
The project comes from Tusk Brothers (creators of Never Never and Reunion Bar) and musician Ilya Toshinskiy, in collaboration with Ernest Tubb’s grandson, Dale Tubb. If you want to sell them your records, here’s how to set up an appointment.

News Notes

Announced

Looks like our readers saw this one coming. Comedian and lifelong Commodores fan Nate Bargatze will serve as the celebrity guest picker when “College GameDay” broadcasts live from Vanderbilt tomorrow, Oct. 25. The majority of you predicted Bargatze in our poll earlier this week — good call.

A new I-40 East access ramp opened yesterday near Nashville International Airport, giving drivers a direct route from Terminal Drive to I-40 East in addition to the existing westbound option. New signage is in place to guide drivers. (WSMV)

Concert

Foo Fighters will bring their “Take Cover” tour to Nissan Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 15. The Nashville date is one of seven US stops + features Queens of the Stone Age as support. Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 31 — which reminds us of their Halloween show at the Ryman in 2014.

Sports

Glow-in-the-dark Cosmic Baseball returns to Music City next spring. The Tri-City Chili Peppers and Glow Mojis — known for using stadium-grade black lights and “mind-bending special effects” — will play at First Horizon Park on Saturday, May 30. Join the ticket lottery.

Coming Soon

Truce, a new all-day restaurant with the motto “fine food fast,” is set to open in Cool Springs next spring. The 4,530-sqft spot on Mallory Lane will feature a dining room, patio, drive-thru, and an app-based pickup lane with menu highlights like a salmon smash burger and steakhouse sandwich. Plan Ahead

It’s been a few months since we shared TPAC’s 2025-2026 Broadway season preview, but with tickets for “Back to the Future: The Musical” on sale today, consider this your cue to plan for the future. The DeLorean revs up from Tuesday, March 17 to Sunday, March 22.

That “unknown number” isn’t random—it’s someone who bought your data. Scammers use it for phishing, impersonation, and worse. Incogni fights back by wiping your info from the web and keeping it gone. They can’t scam who they can’t find.*

History

From Nashville to the Dodgers’ dugout

Before the Dodgers became a fixture in Los Angeles, one of the team’s most reliable players was growing up in Nashville.

Jim “Junior” Gilliam, who attended Pearl High, began his professional career with the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro Leagues before joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1953 and winning Rookie of the Year.

Gilliam spent his 14-year Major League career with the franchise as a switch-hitting infielder known for his steady play in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles. Late in his career, he served as a player-coach before transitioning into a full-time role. He remained with the team until his death in 1978, just days before the World Series. The Dodgers immediately retired his No. 19 before Game 1.

Today, the Nashville-Dodgers connection continues with Mookie Betts. As LA returns to the World Series this weekend, the Nashville native and Dodgers shortstop is chasing his fourth championship.

The Wrap

Since the World Series is top of mind for many this weekend, I’ll share another local connection. Former Yankees captain and current Toronto Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly — who’s finally headed to his first World Series — also has ties to Music City as a Nashville Sounds alum and as an advisor to the Nashville Stars Baseball Club.
