News Notes
Open
  • Maiz de la Vida is now open at Paseo South Gulch. The concept by Julio Hernandez, a 2023 James Beard semifinalist, has been operating since 2020 — first as a pop-up and later as a food truck outside East Nashville’s Chopper. Make lunch or dinner reservations.
Development
  • The Germantown property housing Christie Cookie (1205 3rd Ave. N. ) could be redeveloped. The project calls for 51 townhomes across eight buildings, along with 1,200 sqft of commercial space. The cookie brand previously announced plans to relocate production. (Nashville Post)

Sports
  • Vanderbilt University is auctioning memorabilia from the football team’s historic 40-35 victory over Alabama on Saturday. While the goalpost pieces are sold out, fans can still bid on four game balls, four game pylons, and helmets. The auction closes on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m.
Show
  • Nate Bargatze’s holiday-themed variety special will air on CBS sometime in December, but you can get a sneak peek by attending the live taping at the Grand Ole Opry House on Thursday, Nov. 21. Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 11.
Number
  • 46,399. That’s the number of travelers who were screened through the checkpoint at Nashville International Airport on Sunday, Oct. 6, setting a new daily record. In total, the airport welcomed 107,000 passengers, including arrivals, layovers, and departures.
Wellness
Edu
  • Interested in working with a local tutor — or taking lessons virtually? Wyzant’s vetted instructors can help with 300+ topics, from core subjects to musical skills. The best part? It’s pay-as-you-go and starts as low as $10/session. (Psst... special offer this way.)*
Finance
  • Credit cards that can help you get out of debt sound as wacky as pumpkin spice deodorant (yes, it’s real). But the concept is legit: Find a card with “0% intro APR” for balance transfers. Here are hands down some of the best offering no interest until 2026.*

Music City’s restaurant scene is overflowing with options, and if you asked us to name our favorites, we’d quickly lose count. Enter The New York Times, which rose to the challenge with its “Where to Eat: 25 Best” series for Nashville.

The list, released yesterday, features both long-standing local favorites and the city’s latest culinary arrivals:
  • A-H | Audrey, Bad Idea, Bastion, Bolton’s, Butterlamp, Choy, City House, Edessa, Elliston Place Soda Shop, Folk, Henrietta Red
  • I-N | Iggy’s, International Market, Kisser, Locust, Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, Noko
  • O-Z | Peninsula, Present Tense, Red Perch, Silver Sands, Sperry’s Restaurant, S.S. Gai, Tailor, Xiao Bao
As the publication notes in its intro, Nashville’s food scene is “as vibrant as it’s ever been,” showcasing everything from “barbecue and haute Southern cooking” to “innovative Chinese cuisine and a revelatory fried fish shop.”
