News Notes
Today Is
  • The sun may set at 4:35 p.m. today, but good news is on the horizon... literally. Today is the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. It occurs when the North Pole is tilted the furthest from the sun, resulting in the shortest day of the year — which means the days will start getting longer.
Coming Soon
  • Signage is up and Neighborlily set a date. The flower, coffee, and tea shop by the creator behind Poppy and Monroe will open on Monday, Jan. 15 in Germantown — 606 Monroe St.
Closing
  • Taylor Street Coffee & Tea will close its doors on Saturday, Dec. 30 after over six years serving Germantown. You can continue to support The Flower Kitchen, the owners’ newer floral and coffee venture in Franklin.
Announced
  • Live music venue, restaurant, and bar Twin Kegs II will shutter after losing its lease at 327 Hermitage Ave. The staple known for its burgers and dive bar atmosphere opened in 2014 and will close this chapter on Sunday, March 31 with Twin Kegs Blues Jam. (Nashville Business Journal)
Biz
  • In other closing news, Vintage Creek Boutique decided to step away from its downtown Arcade storefront after almost five years in business — effective following next week. The Whites Creek location will remain open and shoppers can also order online.
Feel Good
  • The Nashville Zoo’s newest member is here. Mai, a female bontebok calf, was born on Halloween night to first-time mom Rye and dad Ibunzi. Mai marks the zoo’s fourth successful bontebok birth since 2017, which brings the total number in the zoo’s care to four.
Number
  • 12. That’s the number of tons of food waste Metro collected in the first five weeks of its one-year pilot curbside Food Scraps Pickup program. Fun fact: The food collected for compost from the 200 participants is equivalent to the weight of six adult giraffes.
