If you’re out on the town next week, chances are you’ll stumble upon the sweet sounds of Americanafest.
This year’s festival and conference — Tuesday, Sept. 19-Saturday, Sept. 23 — features over 200 artists and bands, 70+ panel sessions, and special events across 48 Nashville venues (read: there’s a lot to unpack). Here’s what to know as the 23rd annual event gets underway soon:
Americanafest 101
There are three ways to experience Americanafest: Conference + Festival Pass (access to panels, showcases, and all special events), Festival Pass (access to nightly showcases and special events), and general admission (first come, first serve tickets for venues not yet at capacity — typically $20-$25 per event).
Whether you have your pass in hand or you’re opting for the “I’ll take my chances” approach, download the mobile app or bookmark the schedule. It’s interactive and can be filtered by day, event type, and venue.
The festival’s hallmark event is the 2023 Americana Honors & Awards at Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Tickets are still available (it’s not included with passes). See this year’s nominees + honorees.
Nashville’s own The Wild Feathers will headline the Americanafest showcase at Musicians Corner.

More pickleball courts could be coming to Nashville

Now, the city appears to be in the running for more courts. The Picklr, a national indoor pickleball chain, is planning a major expansion that could include five new facilities in Nashville. While this is exciting news for players, it’s important to note that no official locations have been announced — yet.
This is where you come in. The company will launch a “Picklr Your City” initiative on Saturday, Sept. 23 for pickleball fans to help determine the next franchise location. Keep an eye on social media to participate.
In the meantime, we have your guide to pickleball in the Nashville area, including local courts, upcoming tournaments, and other tips.
I have two more Americanafest events to put on your radar — one that’s free to the public and another open only to conference attendees. First, this Alan L. Mayor photography exhibition opened last week at Bobby Hotel (catch it now or during the festival). The other is a panel session on the influence and importance of The Band on Americana music.
