Let’s play bug bingo

What’s your favorite bug? | Graphic by NASHtoday and 6AM City
Grown-ups, do you have a kid who loves creepy-crawlies? Give them this field guide to local bug finding.

Have you ever gone looking for bugs? To be an expert bug hunter, you need:
  • A magnifying glass
  • A phone to take pictures with
  • A notepad to write down your discoveries
Now that you have everything, you’re ready to play bug bingo. Here are a few of our favorite local bugs:

Assassin bug
They’re called assassin bugs because they attack other bugs. If you see a dark bug with a pointy head, steer clear. They can poke you with their proboscis (that long thing sticking out like a nose).

Where to find it: In the trees or around grassy areas — anywhere they can hunt other bugs.

Dragonfly (or damselfly)
Did you know that there are over 3,000 different types of dragonflies? They are great hunters and — unlike some other bugs — can fly in every direction.

Where to find it: Wet places like ponds, lakes, and marshes (like Willow Pond). They also like really colorful flowers.

Earthworm
These wriggly, slimy creatures are every gardener’s best friend. They help churn up the soil to make plants grow. Did you know that they don’t have eyes? They “see” by sensing light.

Where to find it: Sometimes, after rainstorms, they get flooded out of the ground. If you find one squirming on the sidewalk, cup it in your hands and carry it back to the grass. It won’t bite — earthworms don’t have teeth.

Tap the button below for gross facts and hints for where the bugs might be. Also, send us pictures of any discoveries you make.

More Mimo to munch on

Mimo Restaurant and Bar expands its Italian menu with new offerings

No need to jet set to Rome next time you’re in the mood for some authentic Italian food (with a Nashville twist, of course). Mimo Restaurant and Bar has expanded its menu, increasing the number of shareable plates and broadening the selection of scratch-made pasta dishes.

🍴 Sharing is caring
Try the newly-added cheese and charcuterie boards, roasted Springer Farms chicken for two, or the 36-ounce, 48-day aged tomahawk steak.

🍝 Plenty of pasta
This is where we prefer to fill up.
  • Ravioli with ricotta, sage, creamy Parmesan, and crispy pancetta
  • Cacio e pepe linguine with lime-marinated shrimp
  • Bonus: These pair with new house-made bread — focaccia with rosemary, sea salt, and Italian olive oil.
Wash everything down with a sip from the also expanded (and very on theme) cocktail menu. We’ll be having the Bless Your Heart — Irish gin, Campari, strawberry, and hibiscus topped with a bubble to pop that releases scented smoke, which enhances the cocktail’s flavor.
