We asked you for the best spots outside of tourists’ agendas in Nashville to help us expand our horizons — and you understood the assignment. From lesser-known eateries to off-the-beaten path businesses, you showed pride in place through these deep-cut picks.

Food

  • Peachtree Neighborhood Grill , 329 Peachtree St. | This spot came up a few times, and it’s understandable why. Order from the family-owned eatery’s walk-up window and sit on the covered patio or outdoor picnic tables. Did we mention there’s free parking?
  • City Limits Bakery & Cafe , 361 Clofton Dr. | Book it to Bellevue to order a light breakfast or sandwich for lunch. The coffee beans are locally-sourced and we can’t wait to order the City Max Combo (two of the following items: soup, half sandwich, half salad, or side).

Drink

  • Betty’s Grill , 407 49th Ave. N. | Tucked away off of Charlotte Avenue, this West Nashville haunt focuses on its specialties: cold beer, burgers, and live music (with a stage set in tinsel, of course).
  • Springwater Supper Club & Lounge , 115 27th Ave. N. | Despite its name, this local watering hole is a beer-only, cash-only venue. Stop in to the state’s “oldest continuously open and operational bar” for live music, darts, pool, pinball, and more.

Attractions

  • Stones River Greenway , locations vary | Reader Kristin H. says if you start at the Kohl’s greenway trailhead off of Lebanon Pike and walk a couple of miles, you’ll see a fun message chalked on a resident’s backyard fence every month.
  • Blair School of Music , 2400 Blakemore Ave. | Vanderbilt University’s music program hosts free performances. Bonus: Student recitals can even be live streamed.

You can search for your treasures at Phonoluxe. | Photo by @whoa1.0

Retail

  • Phonoluxe Records Music , 2609 Nolensville Pk. | The local biz has been buying and selling records, CDs, cassettes, movies, and more for 36 years. Pro tip: A Google review by Joshua S. recommends following the store on Instagram to keep up with new arrivals.
  • The Bowery Vault , 2905C Gallatin Pk., 2nd Level | Shop, drink, and listen to original music at this intimate venue — and no, we’re not just talking about a merch table. Expect a full spread of curated vintage and custom threads on display.
