City Guide

What’s brewing in Nashville?

Music City has no shortage of aromatic roasts and foamy lattes. In fact, our coffee shop guide now includes 60+ places around town. Whether you stick to a few favorites or enjoy trying new spots, there are plenty of places to choose from.

Latte art

The Well Coffeehouse
With five Nashville-area locations, you’re never too far away from The Well’s hot and iced espresso drinks. Editor Dylan’s go-to order is an iced Cuban and veggie sandwich.

Tempo
Ditch the iced coffee so you can marvel at the latte art over breakfast tacos. If you’re loyal to iced drinks, try the iced chai or hibiscus ginger tea.

New brews

Stitch
This 12 South coffee bar tucked inside leather goods shop Clayton & Crume serves espresso drinks and a selection of alcoholic brews.

Middle Grounds Coffee
What started as a coffee shop inside Joelton Hardware has grown into a cozy East Nashville spot brewing Sky Bear Coffee. The syrups are house-made, and you can also order a variety of teas and hot chocolate.

The development will house Fire Station No. 2. | Rendering by Hastings via Metro

Development

Metro is moving ahead with plans for a new eight-story fire department headquarters at 500 2nd Ave. N. The project will centralize operations now located across several sites + include a fire station and Metro offices. A concept plan is up for review on Feb. 26. (Nashville Business Journal)

Biz

What’s next for the retail building bordering Lipscomb’s campus? The Well Coffeehouse will expand its existing location into the former Subway space, and two new food concepts (Nashville Pie Company and Victor Tango) have plans to set up shop. (Nashville Post)

Civic

Metro officials shared another update on the downtown library’s fire-damaged garage. Engineers favor repairing the structure instead of a full rebuild, with plans to reopen lower levels “as quickly as possible.” The heavily damaged upper floors may be partially demolished. (WKRN)

Concert

Barry Manilow’s final Nashville concert is set for Saturday, March 7 at Bridgestone Arena. A week later, Diana Ross will take the stage at the Opry House on Sunday, March 15. Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday, Jan. 16.

Plan Ahead

The third annual Sound Check Fan Fest is set for Saturday, Jan. 31 at First Horizon Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event includes a first look at this year’s promotional nights, player and alumni meet-and-greets, giveaways, and a preview of ballpark updates + new food and beverages options.

Sports

TSU and Jackson State will revive their long-running football rivalry on Saturday, Aug. 29 when the teams meet in the John A. Merritt Classic at Nissan Stadium.

Does anyone else ever talk themselves out of going somewhere because “it’s too far and traffic might be bad?” I’m guilty of that sometimes, but this year, I’m making a point not to let distance or traffic keep me from exploring new places.

I recently put this to the test with a drive out to The Trailer Park in Lebanon (~23 miles from downtown), where I discovered 15+ food trucks, a “beer barn” with indoor seating, a playground, and fire pits. Then, I popped across the street to check out East Nashville Beer Works’ Wilson County location. The enclosed heated patio is very cozy.

The Wrap

As someone who loves making the trip to Stardust Drive-In at least once a year, I’m already thinking about making a pit stop at Lebanon’s food truck park for dinner before a movie.
