Yesterday, Mayor Freddie O’Connell declared a state of emergency in Davidson County as ice continues to impact roads, trees, and power lines.
Here are a few updates to know:
Weather: Nashville is under an extreme cold warning from 6 p.m. tonight until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 with “dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero expected.”
Power outages: As of Sunday evening, more than 210,000 Nashvillians were without power. NES crews are working 14-16 hour shifts, with nearly 300 lineworkers in the field as of this morning. Check the latest numbers on the NES outage map.
Staying warm: Metro has opened fire stations, select police precinct community rooms, and select community centers as 24/7 warming locations.
Schools: Metro Nashville Public Schools will remain closed through Tuesday, Jan. 27. Monitor this list for other area closures and possible extensions.

Listen
Remember when almost every artist would release live albums? Streaming has drastically changed our access to live music, but we can still reminisce on the best examples from history. An album is good, but the real thing is better — as you’ll discover at Nashville’s music venues. (The Guardian)
Finance

Fun Fact
Cows might be smarter than we thought. A Swiss Brown cow named Veronika has been seen using a stick to scratch her back — reportedly the first time cattle have shown they can use tools. See if you can teach the animal in your life some new tricks at one of Nashville’s dog-friendly spots. (BBC)
On This Day
On January 26, 1932, a New York doctor subverted prohibition laws to benefit visiting British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The physician wrote a letter claiming Churchill’s recovery from an accident “necessitates the use of alcoholic spirits, especially at mealtimes.” No doctor’s note needed here — Nashville’s happy hours await.
