Editor’s Pick

At this exact moment last year, Nashvillians were bracing for multiple 100-degree days. This week, highs are expected to be 10-20 degrees below normal. In other words, welcome to “false fall.”

A few ways to make the most of the cooler stretch:
  • Sip on fall drinks early. 8th & Roast and Humphreys Street are already pouring pumpkin spice lattes + other autumn flavors.
  • Check off a new-to-you hiking trail or switch things up with a color walk. (We tried pink in the spring, but late summer shades work just as well.)
  • Catch Enchanted Castles at Cheekwood by Sunday, Aug. 31; Thursday’s Dog Nights of Summer is the final one if Fido is itching to get out of the house.

News Notes

Eat

Strategic Hospitality, the restaurant group behind Locust and Catbird Seat, has a new concept on the way. Sally’s Stay Awhile will take over the former Smokin’ Thighs space in Wedgewood-Houston and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (Nashville Business Journal)

Biz

Yellow Rose by Kendra Scott will open its first location outside Texas this winter at the Ashwood 12 South development. The western-inspired concept is known for its hats, apparel, vintage jewelry, and home goods. (Nashville Post)

Mansion Monday

Log home living meets luxury on 41 acres in Leiper’s Fork. Stone fireplaces and black hardwood floors set the tone indoors, while a sauna, cold plunge, and poolside container bar highlight the outdoor space. Oh, and there’s a climate-controlled barn with a gym.

Stat

54%. That’s the percentage of Americans who say they consume alcohol — the lowest number recorded since tracking began in 1939. If you’re part of the 46% taking a break from booze (but still want a delicious drink), peruse our list of Nashville’s alcohol-free sips.

Pets

Forget Whiskers and Mittens. Jack is the most popular cat name in Tennessee, according to a new study. Have a better moniker in mind for a feline friend? Meet adoptable cats at the Nashville Humane Association who still need a name — and a home. (Newsweek)

The Word

Can you pronounce “Ooltewah?” Don’t worry, you’re not alone. That’s the hardest place to pronounce in all of Tennessee, according to a new study by Preply. Around Nashville, our street names are typically easier to say, and have plenty of history behind them.

The Wrap

I’ll admit, I wasn’t a pumpkin spice latte fan until a couple of years ago. Now, I find myself counting down the days until I can order one at Sam & Zoe’s (soon, I hope). If you don’t like super sweet drinks, this one might be a good match for you, too.
