Fall flavors may be waiting in the wings, but watermelons get one last big hurrah at the Nashville Farmers Market’s annual free-to-attend Watermelon Festival on Saturday, Aug. 23.

I’ve been on a watermelon kick lately, so the timing couldn’t be better. Beyond grabbing one to take home, I’ve got my eyes on a few vendor specials:
  • Imlay Bread Co. | Watermelon sweet rolls
  • The Elderberry Lady of TN | Homemade watermelon jam
  • Succulent Vegan Tacos | Watermelon ceviche tostadas
  • Kyleigh’s Lemonade Stand | Watermelon lemonade
There are 23 more specials to peruse, and if you’re there by 9 a.m., you can also catch a mural unveiling at Farm Shed 1.

Development

A 37-acre development named Kingdom Land is planned next to American Baptist College. The riverfront project, led by former Tennessee Titan Derrick Morgan’s Kngdm Group and ABC, could incorporate up to 500 residential units, commercial space, and a new greenway. (Nashville Business Journal)

Eat

Radish Kitchen is putting down permanent roots in East Nashville. A permit filed with Metro shows the eatery will open in the former Gully Boyz space at 900 Main St. As of now, the restaurant is still operating at the Hunters Station food hall. (Nashville Business Journal)

List

Two Nashville spots made Time Out’s list of the 10 best sushi restaurants in the US. Kase x Noko earned praise for its 14-course omakase menu with fish flown in from Japan and Spain, while Sushi Bar stood out for its nigiri, sashimi, and rolls served in a speakeasy-style space.

Show

Remember when Phil Rosenthal featured Nashville restaurants on his Netflix show? The “Somebody Feed Phil” host and “Everybody Loves Raymond” creator is making his way back to town, only this time he’ll take the stage at the Ryman on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 22.

Edu

Tennessee State University is set to build a $50 million, 70,000-sqft engineering building that will house classrooms, computer labs, and over 30 teaching and research labs. Construction is expected to wrap in summer 2027. Until then, the renderings offer a peek inside. (WZTV)

Film

The Franklin Theatre will host a special screening of “The Lion King” (1994) on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. Roger Allers, the film’s director and producer, will appear alongside his daughter Leah Allers for a post-show Q+A and meet-and-greet.
