It’s official: A high-speed tunnel is planned for Nashville.
The proposed Music City Loop, an underground transit system from Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, will connect downtown Nashville to the airport in about eight minutes, according to Gov. Bill Lee.
While an exact route was not shared, the announcement kicks off a process to “evaluate potential routes, engage community stakeholders, and finalize plans” for the 10-mile project.
What to know now
Electric vehicles will transport passengers.
Construction could begin immediately after the approvals process, with the first segment opening as early as fall 2026.
The project will be fully funded by The Boring Company, state officials said.
Ride costs are expected to be “competitive with current options.”
A car ride from downtown to the airport currently takes about 15 minutes during off-peak hours — but that can stretch to 30 to 40 minutes during rush hour, according to Google Maps estimates.
