The Southern Festival of Books returns to Bicentennial Mall and surrounding buildings Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19. If you’re into readings, author panels, or just wandering around with a coffee and a tote full of signed paperbacks, you’ll want to save the dates.

This year’s lineup features 175+ authors, including Pulitzer winner Jonathan Eig, historical fiction writer Beatriz Williams, YA novelist David Levithan, and food writer John T. Edge. Beyond the books, expect food trucks, live music, and plenty kid-friendly activities.

A bonus for booklovers: Additional authors and other special announcements will be added to the lineup every Friday.

How do you follow a record-setting year? By getting stronger.

Take Pacaso. Their real estate co-ownership tech set records in Paris and London in 2024. No surprise. Coldwell Banker says 40% of wealthy Americans plan to buy abroad within a year, so Pacaso’s planned Italy expansion is big.

They’ve already made $110 million+ in gross profits to date, including 41% YoY growth last year. (They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.) And you can invest for $2.90/share.

News Notes

Biz

In 1998, the most common job in our state was a retail salesperson, according to a recent study. Nowadays, the most common job is a freight mover. That’s what we call taking care of business. (Visual Capitalist)

Mansion Monday

Classic on the outside, custom on the inside. This ~5,000-sqft Tudor-style home in Belle Meade boasts a two-level rec room, a cozy sunroom with stained glass, and an owner’s suite made for unwinding. There’s even room for a pool if you want to keep the party going outside.

Pets

Listen up, cat lovers. CatVideoFest is coming to the Belcourt beginning Friday, Aug. 1 with a top-notch compilation of feline shenanigans. If you think your cat is a star, you can snag them some screen time by submitting a video. Get the details on how to submit.

Drink

According to a sommelier, these are the best wines to get from Trader Joe’s this summer — all of which come at or under $20. Pair a bottle with some cheese from local business Greys Fine Cheese, and you’ve got yourself a perfect summer picnic. (Business Insider)

Film

We’re going back to Hogwarts. Filming is officially underway for HBO’s “Potter” series — a television adaptation of the iconic books and movies. With the expected release still years away, you can pass the time with a movie filmed in Nashville. (USA Today)
