Happy first day of summer, Music City. Pools and cookouts are on everyone’s mind, but there’s always another topic of conversation this time of year: What will be the song of the summer?

That got me wondering how many past summer hits have Nashville ties, so I checked Billboard’s rankings dating back to the 1950s. As it turns out, more than a few fit the bill, including these recorded at local studios:
  • “I’m Sorry” by Brenda Lee (1960)
  • “Elvira” by The Oak Ridge Boys (1981)
  • “Every Heartbeat” by Amy Grant (1991)
  • “You’re Still the One” by Shania Twain (1998)
  • “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift (2009)

I’ll be honest, “heat dome” is not the headline I wanted to read this week, but it’s best to be prepared. The National Weather Service said Middle Tennessee can expect temps in the mid-90s and feels-like temps over 100° from tomorrow, June 21 through the middle of next week. Stay cool and hydrated, y’all.
