Number

75,000 homes. That’s the approximate housing shortage in Nashville since permits started decreasing in 2008. Statue of Athena in gold armor holding Nike, inside the Parthenon replica in Nashville, with columns and skylight above.

The Parthenon is preparing to host a party suitable for the gods. Venture to Centennial Park to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Alan LeQuire’s reconstruction of the Athena Parthenos statue from 12 to 4 p.m on Tuesday, May 20.

The 42-ft Athena was commissioned in 1982 and took eight years to build. In 1990, it was unveiled as an all-white statue. Colorful details were added as part of a 2002 gilding project, which remain on display to honor Nashville’s legacy as the “Athens of the South.”

The 35-year milestone will be celebrated with all-ages festivities that include:
  • Museum talks — ~15 minute sessions to learn about the statue
  • Opportunities to ask museum experts questions
  • Guided museum tours
  • A statue-sketching activity
RSVP before the event to confirm your attendance + get free entry to the Parthenon.

The Wrap

MIKE WRAP NCT RED
I’d be curious to take the Pepsi Challenge because my preference has flip-flopped between Pepsi and Coca-Cola. This can be influenced by new flavor options; recently, Pepsi introduced its Wild Cherry and Cream variety. I haven’t tried it yet, but you can use this map to find it nearby.
