We’re an open book when it comes to our love for local bookstores. So, with Nashville booksellers gearing up to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day this Saturday, April 27, it’s the perfect time to explore ways to support local shops during this weekend’s festivities and throughout the year.
One stop (book)shop
Consider this the table of contents for all things local books.
The Southern Festival of Books | The annual festival (Oct. 26-27) features local and regional authors. Pro tip: If you’ve published (or will publish) a book between Nov. 1, 2023 and Oct. 31, 2024, you can be considered for the event.
Independent Bookstore Day
This one-day event is held on the last Saturday in April and celebrates independent bookstores across the country.
Parnassus Books | 10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Author appearances, special Parnassus coloring sheets, and exclusive IBD merch
The Bookshop | 9 a.m.-6 p.m. | Merch, giveaways, and more — including an exclusive tote with purchases above $30

Sunset-Moonrise Hike | Tuesday, April 23 | 7:30-8:30 p.m. | Shelby Bottoms Nature Center, 1900 Davidson St. | Free | Hike around the Nature Center greenway loop with the hope of seeing a double feature: the last few moments of sunset and the rise of the full moon — registration required.

Most streets along the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series course will close at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 and reopen on a rolling basis the same day. Some roads surrounding Nissan Stadium will close at 8 a.m. on Friday. See the complete list of closures and no parking zones.
Travel
Frontier Airlines launched a new nonstop flight from Nashville to Dallas-Fort Worth. For now, the service will be offered four times a week, but check the airline’s website for availability. (WZTV)

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is bringing The Snooki Shop to Nashville. The “Jersey Shore” star didn’t share the location, but it’s set to open this summer. In related news, the latest “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” episode was filmed in Nashville + featured Loveless Cafe and a hot chicken challenge.
Plan Ahead
“You Got Gold,” an annual celebration of the late John Prine, returns Oct. 9 through Oct. 12 with special events at the Basement East, CMA Theatre, and Ryman Auditorium. Plus, stay tuned for John Prine Community Day details. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 26.
