Try this: NASHtoday’s Picture of the Year contest

Anyone else still writing 2023 instead of 2024? Last year made a lasting impression + we want to commemorate it the best way we know how — through our inaugural NASHtoday Picture of the Year contest.

Between our newsletter and Instagram, you’ve already seen tons of our photos, so we want to see (and share) some of yours — and give a prize for the winning shot. Here’s everything you need to know to participate.

The rules + details:

Photo submissions are open today through Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 11:59 p.m. You are allowed to submit up to five photos, but each must have been taken by you during 2023. To sweeten the pot, anyone who submits a photo will receive 20% discount to use in our online marketplace, Six & Main.

Photo submissions must include a visual element that directly connects to Nashville. Examples include a photo from a local sporting event, music performance, festival, or other 2023 happening; a picture taken at a local park; or a shot that highlights a landmark in our city. Photos that do not include a local element will not be considered. Additionally, photos that include nudity or offensive language or visuals will not be accepted.

Finalists will be selected by our team and announced in the newsletter on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and you, our readers, will have the chance to vote for NASHtoday’s 2023 Picture of the Year. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and will receive a $25 gift card to use at Six & Main.

Development

Metro approved plans for a multi-level, climate-controlled self-storage service facility on the East Bank — 304 Oldham St. The 150,000-sqft development could break ground later this year. (Nashville Business Journal)

Closed

Midtown restaurant Love Language is now closed. The eatery known for its wood-fired pizzas, small plates, and brunch specials opened in summer 2022.

Biz

In other closing news, Friedman’s Army Navy Outdoor Store’s last day of business is Sunday, June 30. The shop opened in the Hillsboro Village area over 50 years ago. (Nashville Post)

Eat

Germantown’s Star Rover Sound will offer a “great American steakhouse” experience on Fridays and Saturdays beginning Jan. 19. Make reservations to enjoy cut in-house steaks served with a house salad, rolls, and bottomless fries and onion rings.

Health

The Tennessee Titans will host a blood drive at Nissan Stadium on Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Bonus: Receive a Titans beanie, while supplies last, and be entered to win a signed Jeffery Simmons jersey. Schedule an appointment.

List

Ryman Auditorium landed on Southern Living’s “Most Beloved Historic Theaters in the South” list. It’s in the company of 10 other theaters, including Birmingham’s Lyric Theatre and Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. Read up on the Ryman’s history dating back to the late 1800s.

Environment

Nashville’s rain barrel sale is back. Residents and non-residents have until Sunday, March 10 to order rain barrels at a discounted rate — $54 for Metro Water customers and $74 for non-customers. Order online for Saturday, March 23 pickup at Nissan Stadium.
