As we await the shopping destination’s Oct. 27 opening in Antioch (we’ll have more on that later), the buzz is all about how shoppers will be greeted by green practices.
The 290,000-sqft development was designed with the US Green Building Council’s LEED Certification requirements in mind (read: more on what that means) — but let’s lace up our shopping shoes and run through other ways Tanger Nashville is working to reduce its greenhouse gas footprint.
🐝 Be the change
A hive of pollinators will call the Tanger Nashville roof home as part of the brand’s national partnership with Alvéole. Between 30,000 and 50,000 bees will live in the habitat, which will be managed by beekeeper Eddie Roe.
Want to get involved? Earn your own stripes by attending one of the public educational workshops. This online profile allows shoppers to view the hive’s activity (think: miles traveled and frames of eggs, honey, and bees) + browse photos, videos, and upcoming beekeeper visits.
Bonus: Tanger Nashville will partner with a local org to distribute the harvested honey each year.
🔌 Taking charge
Additional sustainability practices by way of renewable energy include rooftop solar panels, which will generate up to 1.4 megawatts of electricity annually (or enough to power ~1,000 homes). Guests are invited to use the 12 electric vehicle charging stations for free + the center will use an electrical vehicle fleet, which includes a security aerial drone and patrol car.
