Southwest Airlines plans to establish a new crew base — the company’s 12th overall — at Nashville International Airport next spring.

If you’ve flown out of BNA, you know Southwest already has a major presence in Music City. Nearly four decades after beginning service here, the airline offers up to 166 departures a day to 57 cities nonstop. By year’s end, Southwest plans to add four gates in Nashville for a total of 20.

Let’s talk jobs. The crew base is estimated to create an additional 1,300 positions, including 150-250 pilots growing to 500-600 pilots, and up to 700 new flight attendants.
