We’ve struck gold: Annual John Prine tribute makes its October return
“You Got Gold” — a long-awaited celebration of the life and music of John Prine — has arrived. A week’s worth of concerts and events will take over Nashville Fri., Oct. 7-Wed., Oct. 12. Here’s what to know as Music City prepares to honor the legendary singer-songwriter.
Tribute shows
“You Got Gold” is anchored by six tribute shows held at the Ryman Auditorium, Basement East, City Winery, and Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The concerts feature ~70 surprise artists, and while all six shows are sold out, virtual tickets are available for select events. The Ryman show on Mon., Oct. 10 — Prine’s birthday celebration — is free to livestream.

Join the Prine family as Brenda Lee unveils Prine’s star on the Music City Walk of Fame on Mon., Oct. 10 at 11 a.m.

Prine on the big screen
If you missed “Big Old Goofy World: The Story of Oh Boy Records” — a documentary about Prine’s record label — at the Nashville Film Festival, the film will screen at the Belcourt Theatre on Tues., Oct. 11 (4 p.m.), followed by a Q+A with Fiona Prine, Jody Whelan, and the directors. Two additional documentaries are in the works — one focused on the “You Got Gold” tribute concerts, and the other a feature-length doc that will examine Prine’s “entire life and career.”

Luxury tile and stone company Ann Sacks has expanded to Nashville with a new location near Berry Hill. Civic
Metro Council approved$50 million in one-time federal funds to help combat homelessness in Nashville. The four-part plan will direct American Rescue Plan Funds toward new affordable housing units, support services, and more. (The Tennessean)

This is bananas. The Savannah Bananas exhibition baseball team is taking their show on the road next year + making a stop in Nashville on Fri., June 2, 2023. The “circus baseball team” is known for its on-field antics and viral TikToks. Tickets are expected to go on sale two months prior to the event. 🍌

Did you know? It’s World Space Week. Visit the Tennessee State Museum to learn about Murfreesboro natives Dr. Margaret Rhea Seddon and Captain Barry “Butch” Wilmore. Artifacts include Wilmore’s T-38 flight helmet and suit + a certificate honoring Seddon’s 1985 Discovery shuttle mission.

The Nashville Humane Association will host its annual Dog Day Festival on Sat., Oct. 15 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) at Centennial Park.
